Legal assistance and elder rights programs provide help to older adults with the greatest social and economic need. However, reaching individuals who are socially or geographically isolated sometimes requires creative community outreach and engagement. The resources in this section share tools for creating effective outreach programs and reaching isolated older adults.
Legal outreach includes a wide range of programs and events that proactively reach individuals with legal needs. Community presentations, legal clinics, mobile legal options, and “office hours” at community partner locations are all examples of legal outreach programs.
The Older Americans Act (OAA) calls for OAA-funded legal services organizations to target services to older adult populations with the greatest social need. These resources provide information on reaching and targeting services to reach these populations, including those experiencing cultural, social, or geographical isolation.
